In order to create more transparency around jail deaths in Nevada, I brought forth Assembly Bill 301. This bill reinforces the requirement that the county must submit reporting on jail deaths every 3 months and share this information with the county commissioners and local government. This will allow precautions to be made around infection, disease, and suicide. If there are any deaths within the jail, the local government must be notified within 48 hours. The county commissioners must discuss at their meetings the data collected if there have been reports of jail deaths. With the recent increase in inmate deaths, this is an issue that I will continue working on to make sure that we are doing our part in putting measures in place to prevent these tragedies.
